The Mauritius Team is pleased to announce our partnership with the NGO Action for Integral Human Development (AIHD) for the implementation of Les Amis de Zippy program in 8 schools in Mauritius including 1 Special Needs School.
The CSR Committee is delighted to support the roll-out of Les Amis de Zippy mental health program for the academic school year 2021-2022. Nagesh Kistnamah, Chairperson of the ABC Committee along with Feroz Hematally, Chairperson of the CSR Committee remitted a cheque to Mrs Annick Fuller, CSR Administrator of AIHD on Wednesday 1 December during a visit to their office in Rose-Hill.
Since 2009, AIHD has set up Les Amis de Zippy project within primary schools in Mauritius and Rodrigues. Between 2009-2020, 208 schools, 44,744 children, 1,865 teachers trained as program facilitators, 1,548 parents and 863 staff members benefited from this project.
To make a positive impact on the promotion of children’s mental health, research has shown that it is crucial to involve the school community through a ‘whole school approach’ project.
There are various reasons for this type of project, and several studies in recent years have shown that: “Mental health disorders account for the largest and fastest growing categories of the burden of disease with which the health systems must cope, accounting for greater burden than cardiovascular disease and cancer ”.
By joining hands with AIHD, we hope to:
- support the mental health and emotional well-being of our children and adolescents, hence resulting in giving them a better adulthood, less prone to violence and physical health or mental issues
- help promote children’s mental health which will result in a positive impact on their academic performance
- achieve a positive impact on the promotion of social and emotional skills from childhood, and recurrently, on improving the social and economic prospects of disadvantaged populations
With the pandemic and the socio-economic crisis, the impact on the education system has been devasting and our children have been one of the most affected members of the population.
We hope that our support will help the children of our community and ensure the continuity of the project in 2022.
