Job Description

Responsibilities (how we will measure success)

To manage a programme (group of projects), taking responsibly for the successful delivery of all projects within this programme.

Providing project assurance to the Head of Group Portfolio and Group Transformation Committee (GTC) for the programme.

To ensure projects are delivered in line with best practice project management techniques and processes appropriate to the type and complexity of projects. 

Tasks (what does the role do on a day-to-day basis)

  • Ensure all active projects within the programme are managed in-line with the processes set out by the Head of Group Portfolio
    • Devise the overall approach to delivering individual projects, ensuring appropriate tailoring according to project need.
    • Designing, developing and critiquing proposed project plans based on sound judgement and analysis.
    • Uncovering and resolving potential conflicts or disagreements about project priorities and impacts.
    • Ensuring delivery in-line with agreed baselines for deliverables, scope (and quality), time and cost, including managing and monitoring project budgets to ensure delivered within agreed budget.
    • Ensure all projects clearly identify all benefits, ensure these are tracked and delivered.
    • Pro-actively and effectively manage project execution risks and issues as they arise, including the development of contingency plans.
    • Applying change control processes to control all changes to baselines.
    • Ensure each project has an appropriate governance framework
    • Liaise with departments to ensure Service Transition of Projects is successful.
    • Completion of project closure reports, evaluating successes and challenges to enhance learning for your next project – ensure capture of lessons on the team’s central lessons log.
  • Working with Executive owners and key stakeholders to create a roadmap for active and future projects.
    • Monitor all pipeline projects in the programme and ensure all materials are prepared for timely submission Gates.
    • Provide regular reporting as set out by the P3O.
    • Maintain, deliver and monitor a stakeholder management plan for the Programme.
    • Contribute to wider portfolio level planning and communication.
  • Representing the Transformation team in GCD – taking the lead in building out the team and transformation activities in GCD.
  • Business facing – understanding the business need of projects and ensuring decision making is made accordingly, challenging when required.
  • Perform employee supervision in line with all IQ-EQ line management policies.
    • Organising and motivating project teams, directing the projects within the programme, ensuring all stakeholders involved to deliver successfully.
    • Evaluate performance of team members and set out development plans
  • Providing coaching and guidance to the portfolio team and building and managing meaningful and supportive relationships across the organisation and around aspects of the Project Management profession.

  • Identifying resourcing needs in line with the programme plan and ensure resources are appropriate to deliver the programme.
  • Contribute to the wider Change function on a variety of levels, in order to support the ongoing development of the team.  
  • Involvement in the departments hiring process for Change Delivery Team resource where needed.
  • Act as a role model and a leader within the team, expressing appropriate characteristics as expected at this level.
  • Definition, tailoring and Preparation of project documentation in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts for example:
    • Project Initiation Requests
    • Project Initiation Documentation
    • Product and Work Package Descriptions
    • End Stage reports and Stage Gate Readiness Assessment Documents
    • Test Strategy, Plans and Scripts
    • Closure Reports

Qualifications

Essential Criteria:

  • 10+ years’ experience of end-to-end project management across a variety of different types of complex projects in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment.
  • 10+ years of experience working with business stakeholders within a cross-functional matrix environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional Qualification in a Project Management related discipline.
  • Excellent experience in Programme and Project Management Methodologies E.g. Prince, MSP, Agile, SCRUM.
  • Proven experience of translating business analysis, requirements definition and business case production into practical implementation.
  • Delivery of Technology related projects specifically related to Solution Delivery rather than Architecture, Infrastructure, or Service Delivery projects.
  • Experience of operating within Financial Services industry.
  • Effective negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Expert planning and organisational skills.
  • Experience of managing direct reports, providing coaching and development and management of performance issues.
  • High level of proficiency IT Literacy including MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and interpersonal skills, with experience presenting and communicating with diverse stakeholders / and or senior leadership.
  • Interpersonal skills to influence and initiate change, facilitate and enhance performance within a cross - functional environment and globally distributed team
  • Ability to take a creative approach to resolving a range of issues
  • Fluent in English Language, written and verbal.
