Head of Risk and Compliance, Curacao

Job Description

  • Actively lead and perform in line with both local and Group initiatives
  • Proactively participate in the promotion of a constructive "pro-compliance" culture at both local and Group level
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, regulatory bodies and other professional intermediaries and contacts to ensure that IQ-EQ staff understand and are able to respond appropriately to developments as they arise
  • Identify and develop talent within the Risk and Compliance Function, ensuring succession plans are in place to develop capability for immediate business needs and future growth needs, eliminating the risks of key man dependencies, whilst motivating and mobilizing top talent across the Group for immediate and future roles
  • Act as the local representator for internal and external audits and remediation matters
  • A key member of the jurisdictions management team, add value to jurisdictional strategy and delivery through a sound understanding of what the other teams and functions bring
  • Act as a role model through effective, positive leadership behaviors to engender an environment of teamwork and collaboration, across the functions and across all jurisdictions, demonstrating drive, passion, positivity towards change, teamwork, and a clear focus and commitment in driving and achieving the Group’s vision and strategic goals
  • Lead team on a day to day basis to ensure achievement of business goals
  • Pro-actively manage own development, encompassing both technical and leadership requirements to a level appropriate to role that supports the IQ-EQ Values
  • Identify and implement improvements to service delivery where agreed 
  • Motivate all IQ-EQ staff and ensure they are fully aware of IQ-EQ’s strategic objectives and have in place their own personal objectives which are aligned to ensure successful achievement and delivery of goals
  • Implement plans that integrate new recruits into the team, ensuring a consistent standard of coperational processes, risk, compliance and cost management are embedded
  • As the subject matter expert, ensure successful implementation of changes which improve risk and compliance practices
  • Support the Board to deliver processes and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, service standards, company policies and procedures and agreed operational and control processes
  • Use your own judgement to bring to the attention of (senior) management any issues which you feel appropriate, in particular ensuring that concerns and identified risks are reported in a timely and effective manner
  • Ensure adequate resources are allocated to support the Group Risk Framework for implementing new initiatives, ongoing reporting and BAU activities. Assign clear responsibilities and accountabilities for the Identification and escalation of risk issues
  • Ensure that risk management processes are embedded in the culture, operations and systems used by all IQ-EQ staff members, driving and exemplifying adherence to agreed policies, procedures and applicable regulation. Discharge the responsibilities as detailed for senior management in the Group Risk Management Policy
  • Maintain up-to-date information on developments in the regulatory environment that affect the business and ensure compliance at all times
  • Perform other duties assigned or other activities as may be reasonably required by the role

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a comparable position; previous Fund Administration, Trust, Risk Management and supervisory experience are desirable
  • A University degree in relevant field and an accredited compliance qualification (ACAMS, ICA, etc.)
  • Proven experience acting as an appointed money laundering reporting officer or deputy money laundering reporting officer and proven experience with current sanctions regimes – OFAC, EU, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of the applicable AML Regulations and reporting requirements in Curacao. Knowledge of Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands AML Regulations would be seen as an asset;
  • Ability to provide AML/CFT/CFP compliance oversight to the activities of the Curacao entities including transactional activity and investor-related matters
  • Awareness and understanding of cross jurisdictional cultural differences
  • Corporate Governance experience and an understanding and experience of risk mitigation
  • Effective influencing skills and an ability to lead
  • Evidence of role modelling effective skills as a team player and promoting teamwork and collaboration amongst others
  • Experience of having strong, positive relationships with Regulators
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with strong ability to work under pressure to manage various and conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment, while meeting deadlines and quality standards
  • Highly effective listening skills and able to make and communicate rational judgments in a decisive manner
  • A trustworthy and flexible team player; you take ownership of tasks and have a natural drive for results
  • Solid technical knowledge:  MS Office, Excel & PowerPoint. Exposure to industry standard compliance and risk applications are an asset;
