Global Infrastructure Engineer – Virtualisation

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled VMware Engineer to manage, design, and optimize our software defined datacenter. The ideal candidate will have experience in VMware technologies, exceptional troubleshooting skills as well as the ability to maintain large, scalable virtual environments. This role is critical in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our virtualised deployments.  

Please note that the requirement for this is for US hours to provide coverage for North America user base. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Design, deploy, and manage VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machines (VMs). 
  • Ensure optimal performance, scalability, and availability of virtualized resources. 
  • Configure and manage VMware clusters, resource pools, and virtual networking. 
  • Design, deploy, and manage VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machines (VMs). 
  • Ensure optimal performance, scalability, and availability of virtualized resources. 
  • Configure and manage VMware clusters, resource pools, and virtual networking. 
  • Ensure robust backup and restoration processes for VMs using tools like Veeam or Commvault. 
  • Apply and enforce security policies and patches across the virtualized infrastructure. 
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. 
  • Work closely with network, storage, and application teams to ensure seamless integration and support of virtualized environments. 
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of the VMware environment, processes, and best practices. 
  • Experience required to handle P1 issues, Bridge calls, coordination with different teams’ part of the P1/major outages. 

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications 

  • Technical Expertise: 
  • Extensive experience with VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter) and related VMware products. 
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing virtual networking (vSwitches, Distributed Switches) and storage (vSAN, NFS, iSCSI). 
  • Strong understanding of server hardware and compatibility with VMware environments. 
  • Experience with VMware High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) 
  • Scripting and Automation: 
  • Proficiency in PowerCLI, PowerShell, or other scripting languages for VMware automation. 
  • Familiarity with vRealize Suite (vRealize Automation, vRealize Operations). 
  • Soft Skills: 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • VMware certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP) 
  • Experience with hybrid or multi-cloud environments integrating VMware solutions (e.g., VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure VMware Solution). 
  • Familiarity with storage solutions (SAN/NAS) and backup technologies (e.g., Veeam, Commvault). 
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerization technologies. 
  • ITIL Foundation
