Volunteering at L’Arche Belfast

At IQ-EQ Belfast, each employee is given a volunteering day to support our local communities. In May, our teams took the opportunity to use our volunteering day to support L’Arche. L’Arche is a local charity in Belfast that supports people with and without learning disabilities. They work very hard to create a more inclusive society where everyone’s gifts are recognised and celebrated.

Two of our teams spent separate mornings working at two of L’Arche’s sites just outside of the city centre. The L’Arche Village is an impressive facility where people can garden, cook and create art. The team had a great time, making 50 hanging baskets and doing a bit of weeding in the garden.

Aleesah Mawhinney, Senior Client Services Manager commented, “We definitely left on a high knowing we had made a bit of a difference to our local community! An extra bonus was that we were gifted some delicious L’Arche garden eggs that we enjoyed for our lunch! If anyone is interested in purchasing some of our hanging baskets or buying any of their other produce, please pop down to the L’Arche office!”

Our Office Manager Antoinette Morrow and our Depositary team went to a second site, L’Arche’s shared house just off the Ormeau Road. The team was split into two groups. One group made hanging baskets to brighten up the property.

The other group stripped back some overgrown ivy on the fence around the perimeter, before painting the fence to brighten up the surroundings.

Our Belfast teams had a great time volunteering at L’Arche and they’re looking forward to more opportunities with the charity in the future.
