Mauritius looks out for those in need

The IQ-EQ Mauritius team did not forget to give back to the community during the festive season. During the month of December, the Charity (CSR) Committee partnered with the non-governmental organisation (NGO) ‘Planete Enfants Vulnerables’, to support underprivileged children and families on the island.

The NGO ‘Planete Enfants Vulnerables’ supports children through cultural awakening programmes, helps empower underprivileged families by teaching them how to adopt a healthy lifestyle and provide counselling sessions to parents. Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, the NGO has seen higher demand for support, in terms of food, clothing and school stationaries.

To help meet demand, the CSR Committee donated 20 ‘Christmas baskets’ comprising of basic necessities to families living in Cite Mauvilac, Grande Riviere, a nearby region of Port-Louis. In addition to these baskets, team members donated clothes and school supplies to the NGO. Members of the office travelled to the Grande Riviere Social Welfare Centre on Monday 22 December to distribute the Christmas baskets to 20 families.

Afsheen Nobeebux, Chairperson of the CSR Committee comments: “We were pleased to see the big amount of donations received from the team in terms of clothes and stationaries. The families were extremely grateful to IQ-EQ Mauritius for offering them a better Christmas in such a difficult time.”

Further, on 29 December, the IQ-EQ Shared Services team visited the NGO M-Kids Association in Camp Chapelon, Pailles. Over the years, the organisation has served many underprivileged kids with special needs at school. The NGO today supports around 70 children of 3-18 years old through remedial classes aiming to adopt a holistic teaching approach.

Thinking on how they could help further, the team purchased school materials which the kids will need during the course of next year.  The cash prize received by the team for winning the Christmas decoration competition was also used to purchase stationery packs and other school materials.  Thanks to the relay team generosity, each child received a full stationery pack. The smiles on the kids’ faces were all worth it!
