Senior Associate – Real Estate and Property Accounting Services (Hybrid)

Job Description

The candidate’s principal responsibilities will include coordinating completion of review of property reporting and collaborating with various stakeholders to transfer that data in a timely, consistent, and efficient manner. The candidate will be expected to provide day-to-day accounting expertise and guidance to client property accounting teams and internal staff accountants. In connection with his/her role, the candidate will be responsible for reviewing ad-hoc reporting, analyzing/understanding real estate transactions, including those for development and construction, and understanding partnership and debt agreements. The candidate is expected to continue to develop subject matter expertise and function as a team member mentor/coach, i.e., advising, and directing team members in meeting client, and self-development expectations. In addition, the candidate is encouraged to ask questions, clarify concepts, and bring to light any issues with data and process that would help other team members, and pursue self-development opportunities that are aligned with the firm’s competency model. The candidate should also train and support new senior accountants (peers) and staff accountants (direct reports) as they on-board and participate in firm‐wide initiatives – recruitment, marketing, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Train and remain accessible to staff accountants on day-to-day accounting activities
  • Be the first point of contact for day-to-day client peer relationships
  • Troubleshoot reconciliation issues on standard industry property reporting packages
  • Review monthly data templates prepared by staff accountants
  • Maintain quarterly fair value workpapers and coordinate with fund administration team on reconciliations to fund level books
  • Audit logs and matrices for various clients to ensure staff is keeping up with filing accurately
  • Work one on one with property manager and client on any acquisition and disposition entries; review legal documents; provide direction to staff to record journal entries
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements and audit footnotes
  • Review new loan/loan modification legal documents and update matrices for deliverables accordingly
  • Review entries posted for capital events and own the capital event process
  • Review construction and development type transactions (Job Cost) and confirm proper coding and allocations
  • Train on and develop working knowledge of technology used by JGM and an understanding of JGM’s business and client needs
  • Build effective working relationships at a peer level and within the assigned team/department
  • Support internal groups on various projects as directed by manager

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in public accounting and/or fund/corporate/real estate accounting
  • BS or MS in Accounting or Finance. (150 credit-hours or in progress) and CPA (or candidate) preferred
  • Knowledge of YARDI and / or MRI software is a must
  • Must be a team-oriented leader who directs work, collaborates, and builds effective teams
  • Proven ability to adapt to new environments easily and articulate ideas across a broad range of audiences and a strong work ethic with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and shown to acclimate to new technologies and systems with ease
  • Role will be based full time in Iselin, NJ

Salary: $80,000 - $100,000
