Responsibilities

The accounting relationship manager responsibility is to provide management support in connection with the provision of accounting services, to achieve business objectives in relation to service standards, compliance, administration and risk management.

The role holder has one reporting relationship: 

To the Operations Director (task assignment / planning of work / staff matters / content and quality of work / contacts and relationship / core business processes) 

Tasks

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with members of the client accounting team both in Mauritius and Guernsey, as well as the client administration teams in Guernsey
  • A key member of the Client Accounting Team who adds value to the service delivered to the client administration teams
  • Lead a team of accountants to ensure accounts production plans, budgets, recoveries and end delivery of accounts are delivered in a coordinated and timely fashion to meet regulatory submission deadlines
  • Ensure standards of accuracy and consistency are maintained by monitoring the team’s work which will include checking and reviewing the work prepared
  • Oversee the production of annual statutory accounts for client entities in accordance with FRS 102 (including section 1a) and applicable accounting standards, as well as the production of management accounts
  • Work collaboratively with the Client Accounting Team ensuring that client records are kept up to date for the preparation of financial statements
  • Provide technical assistance to the administration teams with solvency tests and restructuring
  • Continue and maintain relevant technical knowledge
  • Pro-actively manage own development, at an appropriate level to current role
  • Deliver the highest level of client service in line with Group behaviours
  • Pro-actively contribute to the team objectives, achieving both individual and team targets on a daily basis with high performance against key performance indicators, which are set towards contributing to achieving the overall business objectives
  • Actively contribute to initiatives to improve processes to drive operational excellence
  • Be aware of, and ensure compliance with applicable laws, service standards, company policies and procedures and agreed operational and control processes
  • Use judgement to bring to the attention of management, any issues which you feel appropriate, in particular ensuring that concerns and identified risks, are reported in a timely and effective manner

Qualifications

Education / professional qualifications

  • Professional qualification ACCA/ACA

Background experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ plus experience 
  • Experience in a similar role preparing and reviewing UK GAAP accounts would be an advantage

Technical

  • Good knowledge in accounting
  • Proven client operational relationship at Senior Level
  • Experience in preparation of Trust Accounts (Income/Capital Reconciliation and knowledge of life tenants would be a plus)
  • Experience in preparation of Company accounts under UK GAAP
  • FRS102 experience preferred but not essential
  • Knowledge of UK tax and VAT at a procedural and reconciliation level preferred but not essential (basic understanding of payments and reconciliation of tax in charge and liability in accounts, tax computations and returns prepared by tax advisors would be a plus)
  • Experience/having had sight of multi jurisdiction accounts would be of benefit
  • Audit planning so as to provide appropriate packs on audited accounts to auditors
  • FATCA/CRS knowledge would be preferred but not essential
  • An understanding of Economic Substance would be preferred but not essential

Computer / program knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel. Experience in Jobstream and 5 Series accounting software will be a plus.

Languages

  • Fluent in English and French
